Album review for Frameworks

September 20, 2013

Hey there,

Deprivation, a quality dark ambient blog, released a review of my album Frameworks.

As I listen to this album, I am constantly reminded of Atrium Carceri. The gritty industrial tone is certainly here, along with its own special something, which I’ll try to figure out during this review. But welcome to Xun, take a seat, because you’ll be blown away.

I feel very honoured to be compared to Atrium Carceri, a project so deeply rooted in the musical scene of dark ambient.

This review was completely unrequested but warmly welcomed, whatever the content might have been. The only way to grow as a human and artist is to get in touch with interested people and receive their feedback. Bare website traffic statistics and download/sales numbers seem like a grey representation of people enjoying a work of art. They simply can’t convey the experience the artist had when creating the music and the one the listeners have when listening to the music.

Overall this is an album that has completely terrified me; the music has so much grip and traction it almost feels like its crawling along your skin. It’s deep, very deep. You like quality Ambient? I urge you to get this album.

And you can get it right here, free of charge.

Take care,

Phil

XUN featured on yet another compilation!

January 13, 2013

Hey there,

I’ve slowly been putting together new concepts since my last update in march. I’m happy to say that the new sounds and production standard XUN has been progressing towards for the last year all come together very nicely.

In the meantime, I’ve been invited to release a track on a new compilation called ‘Korochun‘, featuring several international dark ambient artists. Joseph Edward Karstens (from Backyard Ghost) is pulling all the strings to keep things tidy. Just like last time, Priapus23 (from Akoustik Timbre Frekuency) is also involved in organising the whole thing.

Click here to listen to the whole compilation. If you want to download the music, you can name your price or get it completely free of charge!

The compilation was released via the esteemed Sombre Soniks label on december 21, 2012. For some interesting background info, check out the Facebook page of the compilation!

Take care,

Phil

New XUN track

March 22, 2012

Hey folks,

it’s been quite some time since my last post and release, which had to do with my different occupations.

On march 21st, Sombre Soniks released the 3rd volume of their ‘Dark Ambient’ titled series which includes a completely new track by XUN. I’m glad to be featured on this compilation among so many brilliant dark ambient artists. With the new track ‘Infrared’, I’m slowly progressing into a somewhat different style of ambient – less experimental one might say. But then again, is there anything non-experimental in this subgenre?

Thanks to Priapus23 (from Akoustik Timbre Frekuency) for organising and putting together this release.

Now go ahead and download it completely free of charge and watch the promo video below.

Enjoy and take care!

Relief Compilation for Japan – Out Now!

June 18, 2011

Earlier, I wrote about a dark ambient relief compilation for Japan – specifically for victims of the horrible earthquake and its consequences in march 2011.

It just so happens that some artists of the Dark Ambient Facebook Group have come together and donated their tracks to a self-organized charity compilation. One completely new XUN track will be featured on the compilation.

All revenues will be directed towards a trusted organization to aid the victims and the suffering of Fukushima. More details to follow.

It is available for online purchase now.

Details:

  • All revenues (about 91% of the buying price) will go to the New-York-based Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund.
  • The rest (about 9%) will go to the music hosters. We (the artists) make no profit and the music hosters fee is unfortunately inevitable.
  • The funded money will go via the Japan Society to these recipients.
  • About 5 hours of pure dark ambient music for just about 10 $/ 9 € / 7 £ (specific prices on the download pages below) for a very good cause!

Please support us in this project to help the victims of this horrible event and get some wonderful music!
